Babe, born alone
Boy, must grow alone
Man, need not live alone
For I am Woman.
I, your own flesh
I, your compliment
I, your perfect counterpart
For I am Woman.
One flesh become
One heart we shall share
One man will be my head
For I am Woman.
Take me as yours
Keep me forever
Love me as your own flesh
For I am your woman.

Can you trust a broken heart?
Would you trust a broken compass?
You would mend a child’s broken toy
You’d forgive a broken promise.
A broken leg would stumble
And a broken hand would fumble
And a broken spirit hides behind
An unconvincing broken smile.
Broken junk can be useful
Broken mirrors can still reflect
Don’t be broken by the fear that leads
To a future broken by regret.
Please complete the broken puzzle
For your broken heart do not mourn
Recreate your broken dreams until
The night is broken by the dawn.

Draw for me
Inarguable perfection
And I’ll know what I have to be.
Erase all flaws
Creating true beauty
And I’ll see how she differs from me.
Show to me
The shape that her body should be
And I’ll squeeze myself into her mold.
Perfect the tone
Of her hair, skin, and eyes
And I’ll make my own colours annulled.
Within the shards of broken mirror
Am I betrayed by my own reflection?
Through eyes that would not recognise it
I search for perfection.

Whispers of red silk
You dance in a world where I stand paralysed
Drawing the breath from my soul
And the strength from my body
Your image breaks me down with every movement
With no promise of repair
But it doesn’t matter
Chasing the red rose hanging from your unravelled curls
I am blind and deaf to all else
Will I ever capture it?
The vivid memento of another love
In whose eyes you refuse to stop drowning
In whose arms you long to reside
While I hold you
Even the back you turn on me
Is beautiful, unbearably angelic
And the demon red of your lips
Is burning me away inside
If I could exist in your eyes
If I could steal a moment of your wonder
If you would give me your first kiss
If you would cover my aching body with love
If that rose would just fall during a whirl of your dance
If you could forget
If you could forget…

What left is there to sing about?
Now that love has become a cliche
Now that “forever” has come into doubt
And hope wavers day after day.
How now can we express our feelings?
Now that the world is deaf to music
Now that words have lost all their meaning
And talent is a mere trick of the dark.
Sing your songs about love
When there is none
Sing of peace and of hope
When they’re all gone
Sing your words that mean nothing
For a world that is dying
Blinded to all that is wrong.
Sing of despair and they’ll crumble
Sing of your tears and they’ll weep
Sing of darkness and lost they will tumble
Sing of nothing and mindless you’ll keep
. . . them all.

Step back
I’ll fade into the background
Look at
The ones who want to be found
Tired of lying
My true self denying
This stage just keeps spinning around
And round, and round…
Smile sweetly
Completely
One with the part you’re playing
Act it out
Take a bow
For the public who’re paying
Not me, though
I’m quitting the show
Now it’s my own words I’m saying.
Hello
I’ve nothing entertaining to say
This show
Doesn’t need me anyway
Tired of acting
My mind’s not reacting
I’ve forgotten the lines to this play
Hey-hey, hey-hey…
Smile sweetly
Completely
One with the part you’re playing
Act it out
Take a bow
For the public who’re paying
Not me, though
I’m quitting the show
Now it’s my own words I’m saying.
How about an encore?
They’re screaming, they’re screaming for more
I hope you all know your lines
You’ve read them so many times
Can’t stay to watch, gotta go
I’m quitting, I’m quitting the show.
